The Network Engineer II role will be responsible for providing Network Support, application and software management to external clients for SmartSource IT. The individual will maintain, design and implement networks for SmartSource IT clients, as well as remote internal and external customer sites.  The engineer will be responsible for the daily management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of all SSIT client infrastructure, and networking devices. In addition, the Engineer will regularly interact and work directly with SSIT clients to provide industry standards and recommending devices to procure. This role will also work directly with end and internal Desktop teams to assist with troubleshooting Network issues with end users. The Engineer will present possible network solutions and enhancements, and implement agreed upon solutions.



  • Manage and monitor the network infrastructure including; network devices, backbone, and remote office connections. Devices include switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, servers, and virtual appliances / servers.
  • Act as a point of escalation for the Desktop team for tickets requiring network troubleshooting or expertise.
  • Determine operational weaknesses within the existing network infrastructure and present execution plans to overcoming those concerns in a timely fashion while still making the most cost-efficient use of resources.
  • Evaluate and identify opportunities to improve the security and/or performance of existing environments.
  • Interact with internal teams to provide escalation support during outages and customer issues even if the problem might not be directly related to the network infrastructure.
  • Interact directly with technical and non-technical customers/vendors to resolve incidents and manage project tasks.
  • Work to completion all projects assigned to the engineer and exhaust all possible resources in order to provide results on time, within specifications, and on budget.
  • Lend expertise during design, deployment, and troubleshooting across the breadth of the Realpage networks.
  • Actively monitor and react to real-time network conditions and make recommendations on improving monitoring and reporting.
  • Documents IT activities such as downtime, problems, and systems configurations.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude while participating in after hour/weekend network maintenance and on-call responsibilities.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routing, security/NAT policies on Palo Alto physical and virtual firewalls.
  • Implementation and enforcement of existing and self-designed security measures and policies to protect the RealPage and client networks from both external and internal attacks and/or abuses.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot IPsec VPN tunnels between sites and VPN servers for remote user access.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot F5 virtual servers, SSL certificate management and SSL offloading of client web environments.
  • Travel as required to meet project objectives. Approximately 15% travel.



  • CCNA and 3+ years work experience OR CCNP and 2+ years work experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive network operations and engineering experience in enterprise and data-center environments.
  • Hands on expertise with both Palo Alto Firewalls, Meraki, Cisco Routers and Switches
  • In depth knowledge and experience with the implementation and support of switched and routed networks and associated protocols: TCP/IP, NAT/PAT, HSRP, STP, PBR
  • Confidence and patience to remotely guide less technical personnel through installation and/or troubleshooting of circuits and/or infrastructure devices (ex. Router).
  • Ability to document solutions with Visio.
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate with clients, management, and peers.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.



  • Routing & Switching and/or Security certifications: CCNP, CCNA, PCNSE, Security+
  • Firewalls: Palo Alto, Cisco ASA and Meraki
  • Load Balancers: F5, PKI and SSL certificate management
  • Wireless: Aruba & Meraki
  • Experience with Meraki, SD-WAN, SolarWinds/Orion.
